Community Solar

The U.S. Department of Energy defines community solar as any solar project or purchasing program, within a geographic area, in which the benefits of a solar project flow to multiple customers such as individuals, businesses, nonprofits, and other groups. In most cases, customers are benefitting from energy generated by solar panels at an off-site array.

Community solar customers can either buy or lease a portion of the solar panels in the array, and they typically receive an electric bill credit for electricity generated by their share of the community solar system—similar to someone who has rooftop panels installed on their home. Community solar can be a great option for people who are unable to install solar panels on their roofs because they don’t own their homes, have insufficient solar resources or roof conditions to support a rooftop PV system due to shading, roof size, or other factors, or for financial/other reasons.

Rooftop Solar

Electricity produced at or near the point where it is used is called Distributed Generation (DG). Distributed solar energy can be located on rooftops or ground-mounted, and is typically connected to the local utility distribution grid. There are a wide variety of policies at the federal, state and local level that impact distributed solar and its customers.

Solar rooftop is a power generation system that can be installed on houses, offices, and factory buildings. The system will generate electricity for use with the electricity distribution system. So, it is an effective way to reduce monthly electricity bills.

Net metering allows residential and commercial customers who generate their own electricity from solar power to sell the electricity they aren't using back into the grid. Many states have passed net metering laws. In other states, utilities may offer net metering programs voluntarily or as a result of regulatory decisions. Differences between state legislation, regulatory decisions and implementation policies mean that the mechanism for compensating solar customers varies widely across the country.

LMI - Phones, Tablets, and Cellular Service

Consumers that classify as LMI (low to moderate income) can qualify for Lifeline programs that allow you to receive free/discounted devices and/or monthly services as well.

We can help you qualify and use your Lifeline benefits to get connected with service providers that meet your home needs

In addition to the Lifeline program, qualifying consumers can also save on high-speed internet: discounted service plans offered by many of the companies that deliver broadband, and a monthly benefit of up to $30 ($75 for residents of qualifying Tribal lands) provided by the federal government.

While the Lifeline discount can be applied toward an eligible internet service, there are other options for discounted broadband; choosing one of these options and applying your Lifeline discount to a mobile voice/data service may be a better choice for many households.
